At fortysomething, straight-laced Cal Weaver (Steve Carell) is living the dream-good job, nice house, great kids and marriage to his high school sweetheart. But when Cal learns that his wife, Emily (Julianne Moore), has cheated on him and wants a divorce, his "perfect" life quickly unravels. The hapless Cal is taken on as wingman and protégé to handsome, thirtysomething player Jacob Palmer (Ryan Gosling). In an effort to help Cal get over his wife and start living his life, Jacob opens Cal's eyes to the many options before him: flirty women, manly drinks and a sense of style that can't be found at Supercuts or The Gap. But despite Cal's makeover and his many new conquests, the one thing that can't be made over is his heart, which seems to keep leading him back to where he began.

Predictable, only entertaining when Steve Carrell was on screen.

This film is funny, moving, and awkward in a good way. Loved it in all kinds of ways. Great acting, great casting, great editing, fun characters, and my wife and I both enjoyed it.

My favorite scene is the big reveal where all the couples' story lines come to one big climatic moment and it is brilliantly done! I enjoyed the fact that the film was heartfelt and humorous to tug at my heartstrings and tickle my funny bone.
  • Blah.

The title should have been, "Crazy, Stupid, Movie." Nothing great here. Nothing funny and nothing romantic. It's OK if you have absolutely no better choice.
  • Wonderful romantic comedy film

Originally, it took a while to see this film, since my girlfriend broke up with me at the time when the movie came out. What made it worse was that it was the same day when the film came out. So, the film would have brought me painful memories. Nevertheless, I heard great reviews from friends and co-workers about this film over time. So, I gave it a shot. After watching the film, I will say that it is a rare romantic comedy film that is honest, funny, interesting, & surprising. It is not prefect film (Emma Stone’s character does not really make an interesting presence until later in the film, Marisa Tomei’s character could’ve had a better presence & the naked picture idea from the babysitter, Jessica, could have cause bigger problems for Carl (Steve Carell) such as labeling him a sex offender due to her age). Nevertheless, the characters were interesting, the typical cliches were there but handled really well and smart. In the end, the film was about finding your soulmate through the crazy stupid world. Highly recommended.
