  • Degrading to men!

This was a pretty good spy thriller about Cold War ops by both the US and Russia. And Jennifer Lawrence is great as the tile character - an elite ballerina forced into the spy game. Of course they “train” her to be a seductress, etc. by using males in the most horrible ways. There’s even full frontal male nudity after they make one of her male comrades strip in front of all the other cadets -both male and female. It’s just humiliating. And then they portray every other male in the movie as a psycho, mole, torturer, or rapist! The writers only make the US male operative as the only male with a sense of morality and conscience- if there is such a thing in the spy world. It’s just blatant exploitation of men and sets back male equality decades. I think there are better spy movies to see...

The Acting wasn't bad. Jennifer was great! If you can deal with the violence then it was fair.

Rented, out of intrigue and curiosity of a film I’ve been eying for a while but have been too apprehensive to plunge into. Turns out it was as bad (if not worse) than what I thought. I got through a whole half hour and couldn’t stomach it. And no, it was not J-Law’s accent, nor was it the slow pacing, but was a combination of a few areas. Firstly, flat acting that wasn’t emotionally connecting in the least. Secondly, a dry premise of a story that felt shoved together. And lastly, and most importantly, a disgraceful display of women and what they’re “good for”. To create agents solely based on seduction only after peeling off every bit of self respect they have is horrid in every sense. I felt like the view of the female populace was knocked back a few centuries and left me disheartened and disgusted. I’m gonna go find a barf bag and an infinitely better movie to show women kicking butt and taking names. Which won’t be difficult.
